What to expect

You can expect a lush green lawn! The finished lawn will be level, thick and with no weeds or moss. Having a good lawn really puts the finishing touches to any garden and gives you something to be proud of.

 

When

Turf can be laid all year round although the best time to lay turf is in the Autumn as this gives it time to establish over the Winter when it usually has less use and by the Spring the lawn will be well established. Autumn/Winter is also a good time because new turf needs to be kept watered but at this time of year the weather normally takes care of all the watering.

 

Process

When we lay a new lawn we will always rotavate the area to fluff up the soil and release any compactions. We will remove debris from the area i.e. large stones, rubble, tree roots, weeds etc and level out any bumps or dips. The area will then be leveled and firmed. We will usually add a layer of good quality blended top soil to give the new lawn a good base with lots of nutrients. We will then lay new excellent quality turfs.

 

Aftercare

The turf will need to be kept watered after it has been laid, it depends on the weather as to how much and how often but the turf cannot be allowed to dry out. The turf will start to root and grow after about ten days, once there is a little bit of growth the grass should be trimmed with a lawn mower to take no more than the top third off. The lawn should then be kept trimmed thereafter. In the long-term simply watering your lawn in hot/dry periods will keep it green, there are also many treatments and specialist companies to help keep your lawn healthy.

Materials

The turf we use is an all round turf, hard-wearing, shade and drought tolerant with a good appearance. We can however supply specialist turfs for very shady areas, for a slow growing lawn, for very hard-wearing areas and more.
